ABOUT ME

Skylar J. Rowley

I am a distinguished broadcast journalism scholar at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, originally from Belle Glade, Florida. Growing up in a small town, I experienced firsthand the challenges that arise from limited media coverage. These experiences have fueled my passion for telling impactful stories that highlight underserved and underrepresented communities. I am committed to being a community-based journalist who ensures that voices from places like mine are not only heard but valued.

Through my roles as a Multimedia Journalist for FAMU TV20, Managing Editor of The FAMUAN, and a Knight School of Journalism HBCU Fellow, I have developed a strong foundation in broadcast reporting, scriptwriting, and multimedia storytelling. As a Carnegie-Knight News21 Reporting Fellow, I collaborate with top student journalists from across the country to produce in-depth investigative reports on critical social issues. My professional experience with WPBF 25 News, ESPN West Palm, and the Emma Bowen Foundation has enhanced my skills in news production while reinforcing my dedication to ethical and impactful journalism.

In addition to my work in journalism, I am deeply committed to community outreach and mentorship. I have volunteered for more than four years with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Program and currently serve as a Youth Ministry Volunteer at Christ Fellowship. These experiences have shaped my mission to inform, inspire, and ignite meaningful change through storytelling.

With a dedication to excellence and a profound connection to my community, I am a rising journalist determined to make a lasting impact in local news and beyond.
